NaPoWriMo: Kennings

It’s NaPoWriMo Day Twenty! I can’t believe I’ve written twenty poems in the past twenty days. No, really. I can’t believe it. Some of my blogging friends write brilliant poetry every day – sometimes several poems per day. I admire their talent and dedication to the written word.

Today’s challenge from the NaPoWriMo site is to write a “kenning” poem. Kennings are well described HERE if you’d like to learn more, but they are basically riddles. The idea is to use phrases that describe something without using the actual name of the person or object. Confused? You can read an example of a well-written kenning poem on Jane Doughtery’s blog. My attempt is a big silly, but I had a lot of fun with it. I hope you enjoy!

  1. I confess I was dreading this a bit when I saw the subject. I had no idea what a kenning was. Having seen recently some things that are meant to pass as poetry when to my addled and old fashioned brain a poem is something that rhymes, I couldn’t have been more delighted when I saw your poem today. It’s fresh and it’s funny and it rhymes. YAY!
